Our current projects... |

We restored a pony cart (above) for a customer who liked it so much that she ordered a matching back-to-back trap. The new project (below) is almost finished. It will be a matching four-wheel carriage for her daughter's mini to pull. Scroll down to see the stages of construction.
The breaking cart (in pieces below) is very old. It was found in a barn in King and Queen County. The farm's current owner bought the farm about 10 years ago and doesn't know the cart's history.
Tappahannock Carriages restored the cart; it has proven to be a fast and fun cart to drive.
For years, the Union Army Civil War Cannon (below) had been on display in front of the courthouse. Years of exposure to the elements finally took its toll, so the Essex County Museum hired Tappahannock Carriages to restore it. When it is restored, it will reside inside the Museum. Because of its size, the cannon will need to be assembled inside the building.
The new wheels have been sanded and primed...more photos to
come!
The carriage (below) is a Flandrau wicker phaeton. The following is written about the manufacturer: "Flandrau & Co....have one of the most complete lines of well-made, beautifully finished and thoroughly artistic carriages in New York City... They have friends from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and from Canada to Mexico. Many of their carriages go even to South America, and wherever they go the work 'Flandrau' is a synonym for wear and tear, beauty, and artistic design." http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/f/flandrau/flandrau.htm
